Professor Samantha-Jo Caetano Honoured with the 2024 Statistical Society of Canada Early Career Educator Award

The University of Toronto’s Department of Statistical Sciences is thrilled to announce that Assistant Professor Samantha-Jo Caetano has been honoured with the 2024 Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) Early Career Educator Award. This prestigious award is bestowed upon educators who have made significant contributions to statistical education in Canada early in their careers.


Professor Caetano's award citation praises her for her "dedication to the scholarship of teaching and learning, excellence in teaching, and her proactive efforts to enhance community and student engagement both inside and outside the classroom." It further recognizes her for creating learning opportunities that ensure all students can thrive and for her focused attention on enhancing statistical communication.


Since joining the department in 2020, Professor Caetano has rapidly made her mark with dynamic and inclusive teaching approaches. She has been instrumental in establishing and leading community-focused programs such as the Integrated Statistics Student Community and the Data Science Café. These initiatives provide enriching environments where students can excel as scholars and leaders in statistics.
