Enrolment Requirements

Thank you for your interest in one of our undergrad programs. Here's what you need to know before you apply to a program in statistics, data science or actuarial science.

Enrolment Requirements

Please note that some of our programs are limited enrolment programs that can only accommodate a certain number of students.

For more information and detailed enrolment requirements visit the Faculty of Arts & Science calendar.

Choosing your First-Year Courses

If you are entering your first year at the University of Toronto and are interested in statistics, we recommend you follow the enrolment requirements for the program you'd like to join in the Faculty of Arts & Science calendar.

Advice for First-Year Students

STA130H1 (An Introduction to Statistical Reasoning and Data Science) is required for all students in the statistics major program and our two specialist programs. Note that some statistics programs allow choice in the first-year calculus course taken. You can take:

  • MAT137Y1 or
  • MAT157Y1 or
  • MAT135H1 and MAT136H1 (Note: This is not an option for the Statistics Specialist program.)

If the program you are interested in allows this choice, we recommend you take MAT137Y1 or MAT157Y1 for greater flexibility and better preparation for advanced statistics courses.

Although MAT133Y1 with a minimum grade of 70% is allowed for the statistics minor, the minimum grade is strictly enforced and MAT133Y1 is not sufficient preparation for some of the more advanced statistics courses, particularly those that also require second-year calculus.

Visit the Faculty of Arts & Science calendar for more information.

Enrolment Requirements

Please note that the Data Science Specialist Program is a limited enrolment program that can only accommodate a certain number of students.

For more information and detailed enrolment requirements visit the Faculty of Arts & Science calendar.

Choosing your First-Year Courses

If you are entering your first year at the University of Toronto and are interested in our Data Science Specialist Program, we recommend you follow the enrolment requirements outlined in the Faculty of Arts & Science calendar.

Enrolment Requirements

Please note that both of our actuarial science programs are limited enrolment programs that can only accommodate a certain number of students. Courses required in either the Actuarial Science Major or Specialist Program may not be taken as CR/NCR

For more information and detailed enrolment requirements visit the Faculty of Arts & Science calendar.

Choosing your First-Year Courses

If you are entering your first year at the University of Toronto and are interested in actuarial science, we recommend you follow the enrolment requirements for the program you'd like to join in the Faculty of Arts & Science calendar.

Advice for First-Year Students

Students who are interested in enrolling in an actuarial science program must take MAT137Y1 (Calculus) in their first year.

Due to enrollment priorities and popularity of those courses, students are also strongly recommended to take MAT223H1 (Linear Algebra I - a second-year course open to first-year students), STA130H1 (Intro Stats), and a first-year computer science course (CSC108H1/CSC120H1/CSC148H1) in their first year.

Visit the Faculty of Arts & Science calendar for more information.
