Radu Craiu elected IMS Council member

July 19, 2021 by U of T Department of Statistical Sciences

Congratulations to Radu Craiu, professor and chair of the Department of Statistical Sciences, for being elected to the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) Council for a two-year term, starting September 8, 2021.

The IMS is an international professional and scholarly society devoted to the development, dissemination and application of statistics and probability. Council members’ responsibility is to further the purpose of the IMS, determine policies and supervise the affairs of the Institute.

“It is an honour to be elected to the IMS council,” Craiu says. “As the most important organising body of the international community of statisticians, IMS can use its prestige to spearhead initiatives that will increase the visibility and impact of Statistics. Equally important, the long history of IMS positions it perfectly to help our profession preserve its core values and to inspire more active involvement with other communities working within Data Science. I will work to preserve IMS as a unifying and visionary organisation at a time when our community is pulled in many competing directions.”

Congratulations again to Radu Craiu and all elected IMS council members.
