PhD Cédric Beaulac wins CANSSI Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship

May 13, 2021 by U of T Department of Statistical Sciences
Congratulations to our PhD student Cédric Beaulac for being awarded a CANSSI Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship. Under the supervision of Professor Mizra Faisal Beg at Simon Fraser University and Professor Farouk Nathoo at the University of Victoria, Cédric's research will focus on identifying a person's predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease, combining statistical inference tools with deep learning.

“This project is the perfect opportunity to further develop a research program in image analysis using techniques emerging from both the statistical sciences community and the machine learning community,” says Cédric. “I’m looking forward to the start of the postdoctoral program."

The CANSSI Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship offers PhD students with a degree in statistics, biostatistics, actuarial sciences or other relevant field, the opportunity to participate in cutting edge statistical research in a collaborative environment at a competitive salary.

Congrats again, Cédric!

Genetic Correlates of Alzheimer’s Disease Subtypes

By CANSSI-INCASS

When Cédric Beaulac begins his CANSSI Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship later this year he will be working to better identify an individual’s predisposition to develop Alzheimer’s disease in the future. To do this, Cédric aims to combine existing statistical inference tools with deep learning to create hybrid models and empirical-data-based statistical/deep models in order to learn the individualized and complex interplay between genetic markers, neuroimaging Alzheimer’s disease phenotypes and clinical measures.
