A master’s program in the Faculty of Arts & Science’s Department of Computer Science has just been named one of the top 10 best artificial intelligence (AI) and data science master’s courses for 2021 by Forbes Magazine.

The department’s Master of Science in Applied Computing: Data Science Concentration was the only Canadian master’s course to make the list, joining similar programs offered at leading universities such as MIT, Stanford University, Imperial College London and the University of Helsinki.

Forbes writer, author and futurist Bernard Marr praised the program’s eight-month industrial internship that gives students an opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to solving real-world problems with big data, AI and analytics.

What is data science? The goal of data science is to acquire knowledge from data. Many data scientists are not only involved in the technological aspects of data, they’re engaged in using data to help guide decision-making.

Examples of data science applications include identifying and predicting disease, optimizing shipping and airline route planning, and identifying fraud.
