On Thursday, November 23rd, the Department of Statistical Sciences announced the winners of the case competition at the Bahen Centre for Information Technology. This hybrid event was hosted by Professor Vicki Zhang of the Department of Statistical Sciences.

Students anticipating the winner announcement for the competition they worked hard for.

Sponsored by Wawanesa Insurance, a major Property and Casualty insurer, participating students of the Actuarial Science program formed groups within the ACT390 class (Professional Experience in Actuarial Science) to create solutions to better price and market the company’s insurance products to Gen Z in the form of a presentation. In preparation for their big presentation, students had the opportunity to collaborate with Tanner Klippenstein, the senior actuary of Wawanesa who provided ongoing guidance and feedback to students.

The feedback from Wawanesa was very positive. Students were praised for having a great understanding of the problems, insightful findings and the high-quality visuals incorporated into their presentation slides.

The winning groups of the competition were Group 3 and Group 5 (tied for first place), Group 2 (second place) and Group 4 (third place). Each of them received a certificate for their hard work and effort by the end of the event.

Coming in third place, congratulations to William Boitor, Marta Gonczar, Tshepang John Molatedi, and Joshua Albin Smith of Group 4.

Coming in second place, congratulations to Guan-Yu Liu (Kimberly), Shichun Huang (Stella), Catherine Chen, and Hewei Ding of Group 2.
