The following are the main components of funding packages, which you may receive all or some combination of for your personal funding package:
- External Awards (normally T4A through Acorn)
- Teaching Assistantships (T4 through payroll)
- Research Assistantships (T4A through payroll)
- UofT Fellowships (T4A through Acorn)
- UofT Awards and Top-ups (T4A through Acorn)
External Awards
If you receive an external award, it becomes a part of your funding package. Tuition and fees are deducted from the external awards administered by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS).
The Department of Statistical Sciences offers top-ups for major award holders (PGSD, CGSD, OGS and DSI). We strongly encourage our graduate students to apply for awards. Additionally, have a look at the School of Graduate Studies website to find more awards.
Students with major awards that are included in the funding package, but paid directly by an external source, such as a foreign government, are required to pay their tuition and fees themselves.
Teaching Assistantships
Students must seek TA work, accept any TA work that is offered and advise the graduate unit of any TA work that is accepted.
To ensure that graduate units know how much work students take on, graduate students are required to disclose TA positions held across multiple departments and campuses to the graduate administrator.
Students who are terminated from their TA position “with cause” will lose the TA component of the A&S minimum financial support package for the academic year to which it applied.
Students who do not accept any portion of your TA funding forfeit that portion of their graduate funding.
