Biography

Biprateep is an Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Statistical Sciences and holds joint fellowship appointments with the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA) and the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics. He obtained his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in summer 2024 where he developed statistical machine-learning tools to study the formation and evolution of the Universe and the galaxies within.

His current research focuses on developing interpretable deep learning-based methods to predict distances to galaxies from astronomical images and for principled uncertainty quantification for machine learning algorithms. He is also passionate about developing a scientific community that is accessible and welcoming to all.
