The Master of Science in Applied Computing (MScAC) Concentration in Data Science is offered jointly by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistical Sciences. This program helps you build skills at the intersection of computer science and statistics. Learn how to solve complex data challenges and gain hands-on industry experience.
Data science lives at the interface between computer science and statistics. It’s the science of learning from data and extracting useful information from it. Much of the work of a data scientist involves data wrangling and exploration, data representation (e.g. using databases), computing with data, data visualization and presentation, and data modelling (e.g. machine learning and traditional statistical models).
The MScAC Data Science Concentration is offered jointly by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistical Sciences.
You will complete eight months of advanced technical courses in computer science and statistics, as well as related subjects.
After eight months of courses, you will begin an eight-month internship at an industry partner organization. We cannot guarantee payment, but our students have so far been one hundred percent successful in securing paid internships. Last year's average salary was $55,000.
During your intensive internship, you will work together with your industry partner and faculty supervisor to determine the needs of a data science project from inception to completion.
