STA Course Pre-Enrolment Instructions: 300 and 400 Level STA Courses

Attention: Students going into their 3rd or 4th year this year, who are currently enrolled in the minor in statistics, major in statistics, specialist in statistics, or specialist in applied statistics.

If you are a student in one of our undergraduate statistics programs and you are planning to enrol in 3rd and 4th year statistics courses next year, please keep on reading. If you are enrolled in the specialist in data science or a program in actuarial science and not enrolled in a statistics program, the information on this page does *not* apply to you. You will enroll in STA courses in the usual way. You will be given priority enrolment for required courses.

Since our courses are in high demand, there is a pre-enrolment process in place for some 300 and 400 Level statistics (STA) courses. The purpose of this pre-enrolment process is to allow fair access to courses and optimize students' progression in their program.

The number of courses in which you will be able to pre-enrol has been determined based on your statistics program of study, year of study, and STA courses already completed. You will need to rank your preferred courses by June 21, 2020. Then, based on your rankings and available space, you will be enrolled in the number of courses you were allotted before priority registration opens in July.

It is extremely important that you participate in the pre-enrolment and priority enrolment procedures described here. Otherwise, there might not be enough room in courses for you to progress in your program. If you do not wish to enrol in any 300 or 400 Level STA courses next year, you do not need to use this process.

Ranking Your Course Preferences

Between June 1 and June 21, 2020, you can rank your course preference here. You can use your UTORid to log in. You can modify your course preferences/ranking anytime from June 1 and June 21, 2020. For more information about how this process works, have a look at the PDF iconGuide to Using Course Match.

Important Dates

Some important dates for this process:

  •  June 1 and June 21, 2020: Access Course Match at https://app.cognomos.com/rank/toronto-STAT-20 and rank your preferred courses.

  • July 2, 2020: Students will be pre-enrolled in resulting courses.

  • July 8, 2020: Course enrolment begins.

Important Information for Pre-Enrolment

  • When ranking your desired courses, do NOT choose any course for which you do not have the prerequisites or co-requisites.  You will eventually be removed from any STA course for which you are missing the prerequisites or co-requisites and you will NOT be given priority access to an alternative course.

  • If there are multiple sections of one of your preferred courses, rank only *one* section, based on the time that is best for you. Otherwise, you may be automatically enrolled in multiple sections of the same course and will be forfeiting this opportunity to gain early access to a second course.

  • Not every student enrolled in a Statistics program of study will have access to Course Match.  For example, if you have completed the requirements of your program of study or if you have not completed your 2nd year STA course requirements, you will not have access to the website to rank course preference.  You may still enrol in 300 and 400 Level STA courses through the regular course enrolment procedures.

  • This process gives you access to STA courses for which you have choice when completing your program of study, and not mandatory courses.  In addition to this pre-enrolment, you will be given priority access to some 3rd and/or 4th year STA courses, depending on your program of study, during the priority enrolment period.

Priority Enrolment by Program

We will try to meet your requests, but due to limited space in courses, this pre-enrolment process still does not guarantee you access to your first choice of courses. After the priority enrolment period ends, you will be able to enrol in any STA course, as long as there is space. The courses for which you have priority enrolment are not part of this pre-enrolment process for you. You should enrol in them using the priority enrolment process.
